Carolina First's Atlanta Internet Bank Launches on AOL

By Jim Bruene on March 11, 1997 2:13 PM | Comments (0)

Carolina First (Greenville, SC; $1.4 billion) subsidiary, Atlanta Internet Bank, stretched its virtual wings and landed as the first bank on America Online’s Digital City Atlanta (Keyword AtlantaBank). Online banking services are delivered directly from AIB’s Web through a special browser launched from within AOL. A few pages of information are housed locally on AOL.

AIB is enticing new customers on AOL with a 12-month fee waiver and a free 60-minute AT&T calling card. The bank also is purchasing 1/3 banners within Digital City Atlanta (see screenshot above). AIB also began advertising on Digital City Orlando March 17. AIB has not joined the 29 banks with a presence in the AOL Banking Channel. The only way you find the bank is through links in Digital Atlanta or Digital Orlando or by directly typing Atlanta Bank into the Keyword section accessed from the AOL toolbar. FYI: AIB snagged the phone number 1-888-BKONWEB.

Contacts: John Grauso is Mayor of Digital City Atlanta. D.R. Grimes, previously of Servantis, is the new CEO at AIB, 770.392.7870.
