American Express
Free email at AmExMail www.amexmail.com .
American Express (New York; 42 million cardholders) became the first financial services firm to jump on the free email bandwagon. The service, which has been in testing since November, is operated by USA.NET. In our discussion of free email last month we disclosed that American Express had licensed the program from USA.NET and had made an equity investment in the firm.
The free service allows users to view mail on the AmExMail site or to have mail automatically forwarded to any email address for on or off-line reading using regular email software. Email
addresses follow the yourname@usa.net convention and do not associate users with American Express. Users of the service are not required to be American Express cardholders.
Contact: Kenneth Chenault is Pres., (212) 640-2000.
