American Express is sponsoring a
“Make the Switch” promo on Microsoft Expedia.

After being virtual no-shows for three years, card companies found the Web beginning about a year ago. Credit card pitches are now ubiquitous, imbedded in every ecommerce niche and cranny. The latest example, an American Express (New York; 43 million cardholders) pitch on the screen where you pay for your tickets at leading Internet travel agent Microsoft Expedia. So far, the pitch is a soft one. Just a reminder to use American Express. There wasn’t an incentive, not even a link to AmEx if you wanted to apply for the card. We expect branded pay buttons like these to become quite common over the course of the year
(OBR 1/99).
