The number of Web users worldwide in September was just over 600 million, up 10% from year-end 2001 according to NUA, which compiles Web user estimates from around the globe. Nearly all the growth comes from the Asia/Pacific region, which has added 40 million users this year and is now larger than North America (187 million vs. 183 million). As of September, Nielsen NetRatings www.netratings.com
estimates that 178 million U.S. individuals (all ages), or 62% of the U.S.
population, have access to the Internet, an increase of
30 million since Sept. 2000, but only 3 million more than a year ago. However,
active users were up
10 million from a year ago to a total of 121 million, 68% of those with
Internet access.
