The virtual-ink had barely dried on our substantially lowered forecast for SMS banking adoption in the U.S. (here; check out the comments as well), than the ever-aware Brandon McGee had the scoop that Chase, the third-largest U.S. bank, had quietly made SMS banking available to its customers.
We still don't know if it's a market test, or a full-blown launch, but we do know that this puts SMS back on the table again in the United States. Here's the bank's clever tagline:
Text Your Account. It Texts You Back.
Although Chase hasn't yet linked its SMS banking to the home page, it's not too hard to find at <chase.com/mobile>.

Jim,
I think I posted on this before. This is a HUGE advancement in mobile banking. We are still in the process of helping one of our clients (a bank) launch their SMS banking product.
The sheer convenience of this product is incredible.
Sadly, my credit union clients are still lukewarm on the idea (they should be leading the pack). The system is more secure than traditional browser based mobile banking and far more responsive.
What I am waiting for is some sort of platform where my credit union will port to my wesabe account and text me budgetary information instantly based on credit and debit purchases in real time.
The future is so close I can taste it.
